Every year, Stratherrick & Foyers Community Trust seeks new Directors to help guide the organisation and support its work for the benefit of our community. Like all community organisations, the Trust relies on the time, commitment and enthusiasm of local volunteers. Without the wonderful people who step forward to serve as Directors, the Trust simply could not operate.

As a Director, you'll help oversee the Trust's work, make decisions on funding and projects, and ensure community resources are used effectively for local benefit. You don't need specific qualifications, just a commitment to the community and a willingness to get involved.

To stand as a Director, you must first be a member of the Trust.

You can join online here: https://stratherrickcommunity.org.uk/join-the-trust/

If you would like to become a member, stand for election as a Director, or simply find out more, please contact our administrator at - admin@sfctrust.org.uk

The closing date for Director nominations is 5.00pm on 11 November 2026.

The annual Remembrance service will take place this Sunday, 8th November, 3pm at the war memorial, Gorthleck. We will be running the minibus as a shuttle service from the Stratherrick public hall car park in Gorthleck so please use this service as car parking is very limited at the memorial. If anyone would like a lift from anywhere else in the area, please get in touch (minibus contact info below).

The road will also be closed for the period just before and after the service to maintain the safety of those attending the event.

Following on from last year's success, the Community Council and SFCT's event committee will be hosting a get together in the hall in Gorthleck following the service. All welcome.

To book the minibus please call or text: 07949 916955 or Email: minibus@sfctrust.org.uk

After careful consideration, Stratherrick and Foyers Community Trust has made the difficult decision not to organise a community fireworks display this year.

We know this will be disappointing for many residents and families who enjoy coming together for this annual event. However, over a number of years we have also received feedback from community members who do not support the display, and we felt it was important to take all views into account when considering whether to proceed.

To help guide our decision, we looked at the results of the community survey carried out by the Community Council earlier this year. One of the questions asked was:

"Would you like to see an organised firework display funded by Stratherrick and Foyers Community Trust again this year?"

Of the 101 responses received (99 online and 2 paper), 55 people answered Yes and 46 answered No. While there was a slight majority in favour, the result was close enough that we did not feel it provided a clear mandate to continue with the event on behalf of the wider community.

We appreciate that people will have differing views on this decision and the topic of fireworks, and we understand that many will be disappointed. With such a divided response, we felt it was appropriate to take a pause this year and review future options.

Instead, SFCT will be providing free transport to Inverness for local residents wishing to attend the city's bonfire and fireworks display. We hope this will still give members of our community the opportunity to enjoy a fireworks event, while bringing people together in a different way.

If you would like to join us, please book your seats up until 5pm on Wednesday 28th October.

No bookings can be accepted after this deadline.

SSEN Transmission’s consultation events are taking place from tomorrow in our area, giving residents the opportunity to help shape a new community benefit fund worth an expected £1.23 million for communities around the Melgarve Cluster project.

The fund will cover the Stratherrick & Foyers and Laggan Community Council areas, and your views matter! This is an important opportunity to influence how the funding is used and what it could deliver for our local communities in the years ahead.

Drop-in events taking place this week:

Tuesday 27 October – The Hub, 3.30pm–7pm

Wednesday 28 October – The Wildside Centre, 3.30pm–7pm

Please make time to attend one of these events, share your ideas and help shape the future of our community. This is a significant funding opportunity, and we encourage as many local residents as possible to get involved and make their voices heard.
