The Lochcarron lads have their work cut out if they want to end up at the top of the MOWI North Division 2 this year. Lochcarron was well out in front a few months back. Unerring victories and substantial goal tallies from Lewis Camanachd mean that only Lochcarron can catch the Leodsachs now.
Last Saturday’s tie at Shawbost on Lewis saw visitors Strathglass go down 9 – nil to the islanders. This was the final chance for Lewis to add to their tally. The islanders now sit on top of North 2 with an impressive 16 games played, 12 won and 25 points.
With second place Lochcarron having three matches to play, they must win all three or take two wins and a draw from their games-in-hand to overtake Lewis. Will they get 5 or 6 points or will the other North Two teams deny the cup to the ‘Kishorn Camandoes’?
So who might be coming down from North One next season? It will be Kingussie. Their reserves have had a poor campaign with 11 points after the 18 games.
Looking ahead, there are three ties in North 2 this Saturday. Mid-table Boleskine host the hopefuls from Lochcarron at Inverarnie at 12 noon. Will Boleskine be the team to win and dash Lochcarron’s outside chance of finishing in top slot?
Elsewhere Kilmallie host Aberdeen at Caol at 12 noon for a wee jostle for a possible third spot in the league. At the bottom end, Lochaber has Strathglass at Spean Bridge at 2.30pm.
Enjoy your shinty!
