Stratherrick and Foyers Community Trust Secures Building Through Asset Transfer from Forestry and Land Scotland
3 June 2025 – The Stratherrick and Foyers Community Trust is delighted to announce the successful completion of a community asset transfer from Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS), marking a major milestone in local empowerment and sustainable rural development.
The building, located in Inverfarigaig, has been formally transferred to the Trust following consultation, planning, and partnership work with our funder, SSE renewables. This transfer supports the Trust’s long-term vision to enhance local facilities and services for residents and visitors alike.
The asset, previously under the stewardship of Forestry and Land Scotland, will now be repurposed to benefit the community and also has toilets that will be open to visitors, walkers etc. in the area in the near future. The transfer was carried out under the Community Asset Transfer (CAT) provisions of the Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act 2015.
“We are absolutely thrilled to have completed this asset transfer,” said Peter Faye, Chair of Stratherrick and Foyers Community Trust. “It represents a real investment in our future and provides a lasting resource that will serve generations to come. We are grateful to Forestry and Land Scotland for their support and collaboration throughout this process and our funders, SSE renewables.”
Forestry and Land Scotland FLS Area Land Agent (North) Ruairidh MacLennan MRICS added: “We have worked closely with the community for over five years to help bring this to fruition so it is very rewarding to reach this stage. This is another successful addition to our growing list of completed asset transfers across Scotland that are opening up opportunities for communities, empowering them to realise even more of their potential. I hope this and the many other transfers will serve as an example of how community empowerment can deliver community benefits and improve health and well-being, both of individuals and of whole communities.”
Carol Masheter, SSE Community Investment Manager added “SSER is pleased to support the transfer of the Forest School, ensuring that this valuable facility is well-utilised and maintained by the community, helping to foster a continued connection with nature, learning, and wellbeing for local users and visitors to the area.”
The Trust will now begin the next phase of planning and engagement with local residents to bring the space to life in a way that meets local needs and aspirations. This was kicked off yesterday by hosting a community BBQ at the building.
Thank you to everyone who came along yesterday, it was great to see you and have a chat about the space.
