FIVE THINGS FOR A FRIDAY

This week the Chair of the Trust and myself did a talk on the work our community in Stratherrick and Foyers.  It was good to step back and see what had been achieved.  This followed the Success Evening at the Wildside Centre, where about 25 individuals and members of groups came together and shared what they had achieved this year.  We had scheduled an hour but it went on a little longer than that because there is a lot going on!

Some highlights (more than five things).

  • Spin and Chatter and Wildcrafts talked about their participation in events and how much they had raised for various charities over the last year.
  • The Community Council opening the new toilets and distribution of micro grants.
  • The Stratherrick Target Club on getting electricity to their hub in Torness and new equipment for all ages.
  • The Paths group on their audit, working with partners and funding success.
  • The Carpet Bowls group starting from scratch and already thinking of having more sessions at both the Wildside Centre and Stratherrick Hall.
  • The Knockie Trust and giving out over £25,000 to support people during the recent winter for food and fuel.
  • The reopening of the Hall after work on the building and looking to the next fifty years!
  • An update from the Foyers Primary School and their Under the Sea project.
  • Talks from the Heritage Group and the work on the Wade Bridge that was on time and under budget.
  • The Luvvies recent awards success.
  • The recent donation of wood and community engagement when distributing it.
  • SOSA supporting over 50 members to try out new sport.
  • Soup To Go and the work they have done during and post Covid.
  • All the great work BCC do and hoping to have another local Covid clinic.
  • The development of land at Inverfarigaig and how excited they were about their new Polycrub!
  • We also had Nick Wright talk about the Place Plan and the audience appreciated a local member of the audience who had been door to door in an area to feed into that process.

Apologies if I missed anything and, of course, this is a small fraction of what everyone is doing locally and the number of volunteers who are doing great things since the Community Action Plan was published.
