It’s a long weekend – catch up on all the latest today and enjoy your Bank Holiday Monday.
HYDRO PARTNERS
This week I caught up with our hydro funders. I was delighted to share some of the student grants the Trust has awarded over the last few months with her (you can see them here Grant Award Notice - April 2021.pdf (stratherrickcommunity.org.uk) ). We hope to feature the impact of these student awards in the future, likely in the pages of the magazine. Talking of the magazine we are currently putting one together and it is looking like a bumper edition. My eyes are already blurry from the proof reading that is taking place!
FOYERS BAY
We had our first steering group for Foyers Bay this week. The Trust are aware it appears not much has happened at the Bay for a number of years but after significant pieces of work by several community volunteers looking at options the next step will be putting planning in for the slipway and then, if all is well at planning, construction. As I’m sure you are aware the lack of ongoing communication and Covid disruption can make the rumour mill go into overdrive. If you are now reading this, the website, the newsletter, the forthcoming magazine, emails, asking the lead Trust Directors or attending our new community steering groups you will (hopefully) get to know the facts. At present the Trust are concentrating on the slipway only. There is the potential to pursue other ideas but that will be determined by need from the users of the slipway if they feel it is required and there are many hurdles of match funding, land ownership, business cases and planning to get through if any ‘vision’ is ever to become a reality. You can catch up with current and past Foyers Bay News here Foyers Bay | Stratherrick & Foyers Community Trust (stratherrickcommunity.org.uk) and there is a plan to run another ‘catch up’ meeting. The lead Community Directors and myself would like to thank those who attended, your positive contributions and for providing a steer on pursuing the slipway and the support you can all offer the project moving forward.
SOLUTIONS TO COMMUNITY NEED
I mentioned regarding Foyers Bay that we’d need to evidence community need to get match funding if it was to develop. That is the same for all community led groups in the area, as the Trust may not always be the appropriate body to take an idea forward (although we aim to support what we can). Some of the ‘need’ and ‘solutions’ will come from the Community Action Plan that is taking place. The first of the Working Group sessions is next week on Tuesday 4th May. Nick Wright, who is managing the process, says, “If you want to help work out practical solutions to the challenges of getting about the area and improving broadband and telecoms, this is for you”.
Maybe one for all those who attended the successful SOSA e-bike trial this week at Wildside or use car share services with Boleskine Community Care or have received Broadband through Trust investment in the area?
If you’ve not participated in the survey or recent assembly don’t worry, you can pop on board at any time during the process. Details here Better Connections Working Group | 30 April 2021 | Stratherrick & Foyers Community Trust (stratherrickcommunity.org.uk)
