Lewis Camanachd proudly leads shinty’s MOWI North Division Two after a tense weekend. The islanders have used up 15 ties in this nine-team league and sit with 23 points and a stonking goal difference. Lochaber were due to play on Lewis last Saturday but called off mid-week as they were unable to field a team. Lewis pocketed the two points.
Second place Lochcarron travelled to Strathpeffer where Caberfeidh put up a stern resistance. With no goals until 50 minutes and another at 60 minutes, both from Cabers, saw Lochcarron staring at defeat until the visitors drew level after two shots on target. Cameron Grant put Lochcarron out of their misery with a double in the closing minutes to make the final score 4 - 2. Lochcarron still has two games in hand over leaders Lewis, but will they be able to convert these into points?
Elsewhere Cannich Colts were not up to strength last Saturday so called-off the visit by Aberdeen University, who get the two points and had long lie in bed instead.
Looking forward to Saturday, the match to watch out for is Lewis v Strathglass, scheduled for Shawbost at 2pm. Will Strathglass be on the ferry to fulfil the fixture? Will Lewis get two points either way?
Finally, congratulations to Fort William who won the Strathdearn Cup last Saturday after a good final against Kinlochshiel. Conditions at Inverarnie were so Wet, Wet, Wet it was even rumoured that Marty Pellow was in the crowd! Both sides were ‘Wishing they’d be lucky’ but it was Fort William’s captain Struan Stephen who was holding the cup in their 2 – 1 victory after extra time. Kinlochshiel was left holding their fancy club umbrellas.
