5 Future Things For A Friday

I retired to the Highlands in 2036.  I bought a house here, the elderly gentleman who owned it moving into one of the affordable rented homes at Inverfarigaig after his wife passed away.  I hear he makes full use of the Person Sheds there, making wood crafts he sells locally in the Foyers Store, so he is happy.

My daughter lives here too, having got a job in Inverness.  The area reminds her of home and she benefits from leaving her kids in the after school club and gets back in plenty of time when she finishes work at 5pm.  She gradually became a vegetarian, having never really enjoyed meat, and has a plot at one of the local Polycrubs.  I swear she lives off potatoes.

I, however, prefer my meat off the land and enjoy picking that up at the Centre in Errogie.  I may have a wee cuppa and a cake and always take a trip up the stairs to see the interpretation centre, just for the exercise.  I know more about Eagles and the history of the area than I care to admit.  Sometimes they play music here, which is an added extra treat when you least expect it.  I have to stop buying yet another painting of the local landscape as it is becoming a tad expensive on my pension!  The local arts group are so good though!

The paths here are amazing and the 4D virtual app always guides me when I take a wrong turning.  One early morning I chanced upon the Riverside Field Sports and Recreation Facilities.  I convinced myself a walk around the sensory garden there would be enough but my wife insists I do half an hour in the gym on the rowing and running machines. I do, on occasion, tell a small lie and pop into the warmth of the Hub instead but I appreciate I need to keep trim after all the cakes I’ve been eating!  I hear that Scotland has a few world class athletes that started their training down at the Field.  So there is time for me yet!

As I didn’t have the car that day I popped onto the local community bus and off to the Wildside Centre for a soup.  Eating makes it worth putting up with the small kids screaming on the playpark there.  It’s nice and warm on the decking during the summer months and my daughters kids enjoyed their birthday party there.  They’ve done the whole party tour now in Stratherrick Hall, The Centre at Errogie, Wildside and making hides with the local Rangers at the Forest School.  There is talk of a canoe party down at the Foyers Slipway but I may give that one a miss.  Unless they build a café in the new boat centre people are talking about!  I can see the view of the Loch without it.  Seems like a waste of money to me.
