5 THINGS FOR A FRIDAY

DEADLINE APPROACHING

The most important thing of the week for you – the draft Community Action Plan is available for comment, deadline is Monday 23rd of August. Remember to have your final say!

You will find all you need to know at the Community Action Plan website: www.communityfuture.net

STAFF MEETING

It was lovely to sit around a Teams Meeting and have the new staff team all together for the first time this week.  Along with the Board it has been recognised we need professional support to take forward community objectives and after six months of recruitment we have very proactive, solution driven people.  They are a pleasure to work with and I learn something new every time I speak to them, which is a bonus.  Budget constraints meant we couldn’t complete one piece of the puzzle, which will rely on some external funding, but we will do our best to move forward in the interim.

BOARD MEMBERS

It’s also been great to catch up this week with current and past Board Members who have helped me picture the story of the development of the Trust and projects over the years.  I haven’t spoken to everyone personally, of course, but I’ve crossed paths with many during the CAP process too!  I’m keen, as the Board are, to give an external health check to the organisation today.  It will give us an opportunity to identify skills on the Board we’d like, areas that we need to improve on and the impact we are making together as a community.  We can then benchmark how we are doing as a community organisation and seek to improve year on year.  It’s testament to every community member who has volunteered their free time over the years that the organisation is well placed now, learning from each other as you have gone along.  Taking on that baton can be quite overwhelming but there is a desire to learn from the good and bad in the past and improve moving forward.

VOLUNTEERS

After all the talking the Community Action Plan is imminent.  A road map for the community and community organisations to follow.  The Plan is not only community driven but the aspirations will only be met with your help.  If you have a skill or passion to help with an idea in the CAP then the community will need your help! If you are already actively involved a big thank you and if you aren’t and just need a little bit of encouragement we will be there to support you.  Be under no illusion we have seen well-advertised meetings from several groups with only one or two people attending.  Don’t believe that there is an army trying to make your ideas happen.  There isn’t.  More hands do make light work.  Covid has taught us some new tricks on how people can actively participate on ideas generation (or helping us learn from the past) and we are working on that but we are focussing on how people can contribute to making those ideas happen if you have only one hour or several hours to spare!  So, when the call goes out for help my advice is just go for it!
