BOLESKINE COMMUNITY CARE AGM

This week I attended the BCC AGM.  It was good to see what they are up to.  In answer to a question re funding the Trust are waiting for BCC to submit their Stage 2 Large Grant Application which is due on 21st August. Their Stage 1 application indicated this would be a request for over £25,000 of funding. A review of their more detailed Stage 2 application will be done by SSE and 3 Trust Assessors at SFCT. A decision is proposed by the assessors at the October Board for agreement.  Any funding decision will be sent to BCC within the week of that Board, along with any conditions attached to the funding.  This decision will need agreement from the BCC Trustees.

ACCELERATE

Last week I met with Accelerate, a Scottish Government funded programme that provides advice to organisations like the Trust.  There will be three main strands.  1) We want them to review if it would be beneficial to the community for the Trust to become a charity.  The Trust articles read like a charity, we behave like a charity but we chose not to become a charity for a number of reasons when we set up.  Rules have changed since then, with more options introduced, and it may be beneficial to make the change and Accelerate can advise if that is the case. 2) We want them to review the Business Plan for Errogie Church so we can strengthen the proposal for the benefit of the community and future funding applications to develop the building.  This will also provide advice on future Business Plans for the other projects you identified in the CAP. 3) Governance.  As the Board consider less frequent Board meetings, giving them time to concentrate on projects, and staff are asked to review grant applications (as is done in other communities) we want to provide advice to our Board (who are community volunteers) what they should be focussing on moving forward.  This follows a governance review by Community Enterprise last year, from which we are updating our policies and introducing one or two new ones.
