Lochcarron and Lewis stay neck and neck in shinty’s North Division Two.
By Caman McCash, our Shinty Correspondent
A tense Saturday saw Lewis Camanachd retain top slot in their league. The islanders travelled to Inverarnie for a match against Boleskine which has been filmed by The Camanachd Association. Clips are available on Twitter. The Lewis lads had to win to keep their league title hopes alive and they took no prisoners, Boleskine went down 2 goals to 4 against the visitors in a match which was crisp and entertaining.

The task for second place Lochcarron at home to Aberdeen University was to win, and also to score plenty goals to challenge the impressive goal difference of leaders Lewis. The Lochcarron team succeeded on both objectives with a 7 -0 victory refereed by the Camanachd Association’s new East Regional Development officer and Kinlochshiel player Alaina MacLennan.
So the table now shows Lochcarron and Lewis on 19 points, but Lochcarron still has two games in hand. Opportunities to gather more points are running out as the season comes to an end. Challenges from Caberfeidh, Boleskine, Kilmallie and Aberdeen Uni are all fading out with no wins for any of them last Saturday.
Next Saturday’s fixtures have Strathglass hosting Lewis, a ‘must win’ for Lewis. A home tie for Srathcarron v Lochaber is a ‘must win’ for Strathcarron. Aberdeen and Kilmallie meet in the granite city and tail-end markers Inverness host local rivals Boleskine at the Bught which is always a match with a good competitive edge to it!
