‘Health and Safety’ can get a bad name when rules demand some costly or time-consuming activity with little apparent benefit. Certainly, that is not the case when it comes to the professional testing of portable electric equipment in community venues like the Wildside Centre, where ‘Portable Appliance Testing’ is an essential safeguard.
Last month, the Trust arranged for Ken Reece, the PAT tester from Alness to come down to Foyers and Stratherrick.
Kirsty said ‘When any member of the public is using the great facilities at the Wildside Centre they can be confident that appliances have been tested regularly. When you put on the kettle, or plug in projector, you can be sure that it has been checked for safety and is fitted with the correct fuse. The last thing you need is a nasty shock!’
Whilst we had the PAT tester down in the area, the Trust also arranged for Ken to test thirty-two electric appliances at Boleskine Community Care and seventeen more at Stratherrick Public Hall. Ken the tester found a very dodgy plug which was replaced on the spot, addressing a fire risk which could have resulted in serious damage.
