Firstly, I would like to thank members of the Steering Group and the community for attending the Wildside Centre on Friday 30th May to meet with the Lead Director, Trust Chair, the SSE representative and myself to discuss concerns about the progress of re-opening the building to the community. After a lively and frank discussion of the various issues raised, a way forward for the project which met the community’s aspirations was agreed. This called for the Trust to commence tendering for the Phase 1B building work whilst undertaking the investigations into the septic tank and heating issues in parallel, and the Trust representatives committed to raise this at the Board meeting on the 4th June.
The matter was duly raised at the Board meeting and a majority of those members present were persuaded / minded to agree with the argument that the investigations may have an impact on the building work being tender for which may invalidate the tendering process and/or incur additional costs. Thus, a decision to postpone the tending process until the investigations had been done and the implications of their findings assessed, was recorded.
This is, of course, a real disappointment for the community, particularly after the positivity of the meeting a few days before. However, the Trust does have legal responsibilities and a duty of care for the use of the properties it owns which, it felt, needed to take priority in this case.
We are now defining exactly what questions / issues the investigations will address and will seek appropriately experienced companies to undertake the work as a matter of urgency.
