Come along to the first Art Exhibition to be held at The Gathering Place (formerly Errogie Free Church)
Thursday, 10 October 2024

Come along to the first Art Exhibition to be held at The Gathering Place (formerly Errogie Free Church) from 7pm on Friday 25th Oct.

We are looking forward to welcoming Matt Rhodes, a local Sculptor, for his exhibition, titled RECONSTRUCTION, later this month.

Over the past two years, Matt has been working on the collection of sculptures that make up this exhibition, which were originally conceived to form an exhibition in this church. The pieces are deeply inspired by his travels to Rome, Mexico, and Prague, where he became fascinated by how disparate cultures are reflected in their historical artifacts. From religious relics to cultural symbols, he sought to explore the merging of these influences through his work.

Matt’s sculptures are created using a variety of materials—plaster, ceramics, and found objects. A key part of his process is a technique he developed using cellophane tape to create casts. This approach generates distinct surface textures, producing a unique finish for each sculpture, unlike traditional casting methods where uniformity is often expected. By allowing these organic surface qualities to emerge, each piece becomes one-of-a-kind, with an almost archaeological feel.

You can view the exhibition daily from 4pm until Friday the 1st November.
